PEACEPLUS is a new European Union funding programme designed to support peace and prosperity across Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland, building upon the work of the PEACE and INTERREG programmes. The Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) has allocated 5.2 million euro to Mid Ulster District Council for delivery of local community action plan.
The Mid Ulster District Council PEACEPLUS Action Plan has been developed through a process of consultation with a range of stakeholders within the MUDC area, including people, groups and organisations who have lived experience of both the issues that need to be addressed and the opportunities that can be taken to make our Council area one that is “a welcoming, place where our people are content, healthy and safe; educated and skilled; where our economy is thriving; and our environment and heritage are sustained”.
The overall objective of the Mid Ulster District Council’s PEACEPLUS Local Community Action Plan is to support the development of our region as one that is equitable, diverse and inclusive, providing as many opportunities as possible for people to both maximise their contribution with, to and for each other so that they can realise their potential.
In implementing this Plan, the activities and initiatives will continue to both take the opportunities that are presented by Peace but also deliver support and change within our area that addresses need and which enhances social, economic and environmental regeneration.
Plan Strands
The Plan is formulated using the three thematic strands which are then underpinned by nine strategic and thematic programmes, further expanded into indicative actions and initiatives.
The Mid Ulster PEACEPLUS Programme was launched in January 2025. Cross community participation will be a key focus of all programmes and targets will be in line with the demographics of the Mid Ulster area. Each programme will include a series of single and multiples events to achieve the meaningful, sustained and purposeful contact required.
The local community action plan is only one element of the PEACEPLUS programme, for more information of the whole programme please visit:
