Coarse Angling
The Glenone Coarse Angling Facility on the Lower River Bann is a European class fishery having hosted the FIPSed European Coarse Angling Championships of 2019. A number of local angling clubs provide for some competitive fishing on the river throughout the year.
Located in parts of the beautiful wooded area of the Lower Bann, the Glenone Coarse Angling facility provides for over 100 competition standard swims accessible by a beautiful riverside walk of over a mile. Good fishing is available all year round, although it can slow down at spawning time, with the main species being Hybrids, Roach, Skimmers and Bream.
During competition average catches are between 8-15 kilos, although this can be far exceeded during the pleasure sessions, when 40kg bags are not uncommon. Catches can be variable depending on the water flow and season with the pole/feeder considered most suitable during the winter months and the slider during the summer.
A number of local fishing clubs run open competitions and leagues on the venue complemented by two five-day festivals in November.
This managed Catch & Release fishery is open to everyone – call 028 7963 1510, or visit the Tourist Information Office at the Bridewell Centre, Magherafelt.
Annual permits cost £40 with 3 and 8 day permits available for £10 and £20 respectively. Free for under 18s.
Rod Licences are available to buy online from DAERA Inland Fisheries.
