The Mid Ulster LMP through consultation with local industry stakeholders identified the need for a HGV and Transport Academy to support industry supply chains by addressing HGV and coach/bus driver shortages, specifically targeting participants who are:
-
Mid Ulster District Council residents
-
Over the age of 21
-
Holders of a full valid driving licence for a minimum of five years with no more than 3 penalty points.
-
Unemployed or underemployed (working less than 16 hours per week) or at risk of redundancy.
The Academy is fully funded and 20 participants have the opportunity to gain a HGV licence (Class 1 or Class 2) or coach licence (PCV) and a guaranteed job interview with a local company with HGV/PCV vacancies.
Applications for this programme are now open and will close on Monday 11 November at 12noon.

Are you a Mid Ulster Employer?
Are you struggling with recruitment and retention of staff?
The HGV and Transport Training and Employment Academy began to recruit participants at the end of October 2024 and we are currently seeking to engage local employers who can offer interview/s for participants who gain their HGV/PCV licence through the Academy.
As well as gaining the required licence, all participants will be job ready having had employability training and development via the Academy’s mentorship element – this dedicated mentoring will continue for a further six-month period to ensure sustainability of employment.
