“See It, Be It” Careers Fair Sparks Ambition for Mid Ulster’s Young People

CAFRE Loughry Campus, Cookstown was buzzing last Thursday as around 2,000 Year 12 students from 14 Grammar and Secondary schools across Mid Ulster attended the ‘See It, Be It’ Careers Fair.

Organised by Mid Ulster District Council’s Labour Market Partnership (LMP), the event gave students a unique opportunity to explore study pathways and discover exciting new career opportunities available within their local area.

With over 45 local businesses, education providers, and voluntary organisations in attendance, students engaged with industry professionals, asked questions, and gained insight into future careers across multiple sectors, from construction and engineering to healthcare and creative industries.

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Eugene McConnell, praised the event’s impact:

The ‘See It, Be It’ Careers Fair is all about opening doors for our young people, showing them that exciting and rewarding careers are within reach right here in Mid Ulster. By connecting directly with businesses and education providers, students leave with a clearer vision of their future.

Fintan McCann, Head of Food Education at CAFRE echoed the enthusiasm: “We were delighted to host this fantastic event at CAFRE’s Loughry Campus outside Cookstown. While our education courses are focused on careers in the agri-food industry it’s invaluable for students to see first-hand the vast range of opportunities available locally and to engage with experts who can guide them on their career journeys.”

The “See It, Be It” Careers Fair marked a groundbreaking initiative for Mid Ulster Labour Market Partnership, designed specifically for Year 12 students. This flagship event not only provided invaluable career insights but also laid the foundation for future opportunities. By connecting young people with local employers and education providers, it will continue to inspire the next generation—ensuring they have the knowledge, skills, and connections to confidently take the next step towards their future careers within the Mid Ulster region.
