Towns and Traders in Plantation Ulster
A talk by William Roulston | Wednesday 29 January | £5 | Square Box |
Join us at Hill of The O’Neill & Ranfurly House on Wednesday 29 January for a history talk on The Ulster Plantation and how it was a period of immense change. Not only were new markets and marketplaces established, but also a new community was created who were interested in buying and selling the goods now on offer there.
The Ulster port books for 1612–15 offer a great deal of information regarding the products being bought and sold in the province and provide us with the names and activities of the merchants and the captains of the vessels entrusted with the transportation of these goods. Within the broader context of the development of towns in Ulster in the early seventeenth century, this talk by William Roulston explores the lives of the merchants and traders, their activities, and the conditions under which they operated during this period.
